Getting Started

First steps
1. Begin writing your profile in BEDDbios
2. Complete My ideal in BEDDbuddies
3. Select your Sounds & Alerts in BEDDings

BEDD Internet
Please confirm that you have selected a non-WAP (straight) GPRS Internet/WEB/NET access point. It should be the same IAP that gives your phone Internet/WEB/NET access.

Once your Internet connection is active, then you will see Refresh in the Options menu in BEDDroom and BEDDbuddies.

Important Notes
Confirm that you have the latest version of BEDD installed by clicking Options, About at the BEDD main menu. Compare your version with what is available on your operators' WAP site or the BEDD website at http://www.bedd.com/downloads.php or the BEDD WAP site at wap.bedd.com.
Help files are found by clicking Options at the BEDD main menu
The software has only minimal anti-virus protection. Use caution when downloading anything unknown to your phone. For the latest anti-virus protection, we recommend installing F-Secure Mobile Anti-Virus at http://mobile.f-secure.com/downloads/trial/index.html
Make sure your date and time are set correctly. This is important for accurate BT and GPRS communication
While traveling, you should change your time zone but not adjust your clock. GPRS in roaming can be turned on in BEDDings
Running BEDD uses battery faster
GPRS auto update frequency, which may have a slight effect on data traffic charges and battery life, can be modified in BEDDings, Options
There should be no data traffic charges while inside a free wireless hotspot
1 MB of memory is required. The SIS file can be stored on the phone memory, mini-SD or MMC

Using your WLAN enabled phone, scan the free wireless hotspot to find the hotspot IAP. Then change your IAP selection in BEDDings, Options, to show the IAP of the free wireless hotspot.

There should be no data traffic charges, but there may be a monthly access or other type charge.

Helpful hints

1. Each time when you first start the software, if your GPRS/Internet is enabled, then you will be prompted with billable event warning message for the connection to the Internet. Once you are aware of this, then if you don’t want to see this and other billable event warning messages in the future, then you could turn Disable warnings to “On” in BEDDings, Options.

2. If some profiles are not appearing in your phone, then double check your Alert filters, Keyword search, Blocked list, GPRS auto update and Online control settings.

3. If data doesn't update right away via Bluetooth, try sending a BEDDtalk message to the other user, then both of your data should update.

4. BEDDcast messages via Bluetooth are sometimes slow. Btw, if you leave a message in BEDDcast, it will continue being sent via Bluetooth and GPRS.

5. For easy access to BEDD, add it to your Active Standby apps. These shortcuts are shown at the top of your phone and enable one click to enter into BEDD.

BEDDroom

The BEDDroom is a live chat room showing users via Bluetooth and the Internet. More specifically, it will show anyone within Bluetooth range and anyone that has connected to the Internet within the past one hour.

When these users either go out of range or they discontinue their connection, then they will drop from the BEDDroom.

Matching is based on the Alert filters and GPRS Online control in BEDDings. Your selection of location and input of keywords will determine what users will appear in your BEDDroom. You can control whether or not BT devices are shown.

BEDDtalk is free text messaging via BT and low cost/no cost via GPRS.

BEDDchat is free IM with one person via BT.

BEDDcast message is a free text message broadcast to everyone via Bluetooth or low cost/no cost via GPRS.

BEDDfish enables free text messaging with another person’s Bluetooth phone before they have BEDD.

BEDDfish is for shorter messages to any Bluetooth phone. BEDDfish note is for longer messages to certain Bluetooth phones such as Symbian S60.

Blocked list blocks users in all areas via both Bluetooth and GPRS. Remove users from Blocked list if you want them to be able to appear again in your phone.

BEDDbuddies

BEDDbuddies is your buddy list. It lets you know when friends and family are close by via Bluetooth or online via the Internet.

You can add any profile to your buddy list in either BEDDroom or BEDDbuddies by opening the profile, then click Save as BEDDbuddy.

The matching score will then change from a number to a smiley face, indicating that your friend is now in your buddy list.

When that user (buddy) comes within Bluetooth range or is online via the Internet, then you’ll receive a pop-up message, vibration and ringtone alert.

The smiley faces are either hot pink for gals or dashing blue for guys. If awake then that buddy is present/online, and if sleeping then not present/not online. A green smiley face is for non-BEDD enabled devices.

BEDDmates

BEDDmates is a matching feature within BEDDbuddies. It works by matching your profile with that of other users, then giving a compatibility score of 1 to 6.

It is meant to be a general indication only, and a fun way to see how your answers or choices compare with other users.

BEDDmates matches are based on your My ideal answers and your keywords in Keyword match. Your answers and words are matched with the same areas of other users both via Bluetooth and the Internet.

Matches via the Internet will appear with a G (GPRS) in the lower left of the emoticon. Refresh makes a manual GPRS connection, in addition to the automatic update setting.

In My ideal, Sex and Sexuality are must match both ways. Meaning if the other person doesn’t match what you are looking for then you won’t show in their phone and they won’t show in yours.

The other areas have medium to light weighting. These areas combined with the keywords correlation are factored together to give a score of 1 to 6. We use the following table when correlating your answers.

95% and above = 6
85% to 94% = 5
75% to 84% = 4
65% to 74% = 3
55% to 64% = 2
below 54% = 1

The more accurate and specific are your My ideal and Alert filters and the more detailed is your BEDDbios, then the more meaningful or relevant will be your matches.

Keyword alert – Inside Alert filters, enter any keyword, and when the same keyword is in another users profile, then you will get an alert (pop-up message, ringtone and vibration) that so and so who has such and such keyword is here!

Keyword match – Inside Alert filters, enter any keyword, and then BEDDroom and BEDDbuddies will only populate with other users who have the exact same keyword in their profile.

Keyword search – Enter any keyword to search through all the words placed in every profile that meets the location criteria.

FileShare
Share any file type via Bluetooth, IR or GPRS. Public files can be uploaded from your phone without your active interaction.

BEDDpic
When showing Picture available then you can Request picture to receive via BT or GPRS. The same for New picture available.

To the left of each users name is their emoticon. If there’s a yellow asterisk in the upper left of the emoticon then there is new information.

Regarding the numbers 1 to 6, if there is a gold asterisk to the upper left of this number then the user is in BT range or GPRS online

BEDDings

BEDDings contain your settings for Sounds & Alerts, Options and Skins. It enables you to customize your alerts, appearance and how the software will work.

Sounds & Alerts is Ringing tone, Ringing volume and Vibrating alert for each area. Toggle right or left to select settings for BEDDroom and BEDDbuddies.

In BEDDbuddies, the Storage level is the level which BEDDmates matches are stored. Alerting level is the level which you'll receive a match alert.

Options contain Disable warnings, BEDDpic storage, Automatic Startup, IAP selection, GPRS auto update and online control, GPRS in roaming and Visibility.

Disable warnings is by default set to “Off”, as these warnings will let the user know when ever they have a billable event.

NB. These billable events are charges for using network services, such as GPRS or SMS. They are charged based on your service provider agreement, as if per normal when you send an SMS or access the Internet using your phone’s browser.

BEDD has an Automatic Startup feature, which enables BEDD to automatically start each time you start your phone. By default, it is turned Off. If you wish to enable this feature, go into BEDDings, Options, Automatic startup, and change to On.

By turning On the Automatic startup, then you know BEDD will always be running in the background searching automatically to find your buddies or meet new friends.

IAP selection is found inside BEDDings, Options. Select a non-WAP (straight) GPRS Internet/WEB/NET access point to enable your GPRS/Internet connection. When you click on IAP selection, the software will show the available choices.

Your IAP selection should be the same as what you have inside your phone in Tools, Settings, Connection and Access points. If you have not already configured your phone for Internet access, then please contact your service provider. It is usually a quick process involving configuration SMS, then saving the settings.

GPRS auto update enables selection of the GPRS connection frequency. This is how often your phone will make an automatic connection checking for new matches, messages, etc.

NB. When GPRS auto update is switched off, Refresh will still be shown in BEDDroom and BEDDbuddies. Connections will then only occur when you click Refresh or click on any feature which uses GPRS.

For example, if you send BEDDtalk or FileShare to a user with a G in their profile, then GPRS will only connect long enough to send the message or file.

GPRS online control determines who is seen inside the BEDDroom, based on their last connection to the Internet.

The default setting is the past 1 hour. So, when the software makes an automatic connection or when you click Refresh, then you will see anyone who has been online in the past 1 hour.

NB. Of course the user must also meet your Alert filters criteria, as well.

GPRS in roaming is by default turned “Off”. Switch to “On” to enable GPRS connections while you’re roaming away from your normal coverage area.

Visibility is by default set to seen by all. This means anyone could see your profile. If you select Visibility “To none”, then your profile won’t appear in any other users BEDD software. You will still be able to see other users, but they won’t be able to see you.

Skins enable you to select how many rows are seen and add wallpaper or picture background. The “C” key will delete the picture.

BEDDbios

BEDDbios is your Active bios, My info (personal info) and Public (shared) files.

Active bios enable different profiles to be seen at different times. Public files can be accessed by other users without your knowledge or active involvement.

NB. Some areas could be left blank, and you could always go back and update or amend any information at any time.

Once your BEDDbios is complete, click Back and your BEDDbios info will automatically be sent to other phones via BT and the Internet.

Password retrieval

Internet connection error
If you are having trouble making an Internet connection and don't see Refresh in the BEDDroom or BEDDbuddies Options menu, then double check the following:

- Your IAP selection inside BEDDings is correct. This must be a non-WAP straight GPRS/Internet access point

- Your IAP selection corresponds with one of the GPRS/Internet access points listed inside Tools, Settings, Connection, Access Points

- Your operator/service provider plan is GPRS/Internet enabled

Battery drains faster
This generally happens when using any application. Most newer phones should have plenty of battery power, and the difference of running the BEDD application might be minor.

Memory low
If this note is shown, the phone memory is low and you must delete some data before you are able to install BEDD.

BEDD requires about 1 MB of memory.

In newer S60 phones, you can check the memory consumption of different data groups and the available memory for installing new software by going to Tools -> Options -> Memory details, then select Phone memory or Memory card.

You can also access the Memory card by going to Tools -> Memory -> Options -> Memory details.

You may want to add new MMC or delete some of your files to make more memory available. To prevent data loss, pls backup up these files to your PC via Bluetooth (BT), InfraRed (IR) or cable.

In older phones, such as N6680, N6600, N3660 and N3650 you can see memory details in Menu -> Tools -> Manager -> Options -> Memory details. In a N7650, go to Manager, and press the joystick to the right.

In the NGage, go to Menu -> Tools -> Manager -> Options -> Device memory.

You can also access the Memory card by going to Menu -> Extras -> Memory -> Options -> Memory details.

Corrupt memory card
If problems persist after installing BEDD to the MMC, you may want to format the card and re-install BEDD.

In newer phones, go to Menu -> Tools -> Memory -> Options -> Format memory card.

In older phones, go to Menu -> Extras -> Memory -> Options -> Format memory card.

Important Note: All data stored on the Memory card will be permanently deleted when you format it. Before formatting, to prevent data loss, pls backup your files via BT, IR or cable to your PC. You can also use a MMC card reader to transfer files to your PC.

BEDD icon missing after installation
Check your sub folders My own or Installations at the main menu. Also, sometimes after installing a new application, the phone fails to update its menu of available applications. Restart the phone and the BEDD icon should appear in the phone menu.

It might be easier to set BEDD as one of your Active standby apps. You can do this by going into Tools, Settings, Phone, Standby mode, Active Standby apps., then select BEDD as one of your shortcuts. This will enable easy one click entry into BEDD.
